Background
Growing up in the 70’s it wasn’t difficult to get caught up in the handicraft resurgence and I learnt skills such as knitting, macramé and cross stitch at an early age.
Once discovered, my love of textiles never really left. I took an O Level in textile art at secondary school, but nothing formal again until I moved to Brighton. Then I spent four years with Kim Thittichai studying Experimental Textiles, in particular layering of deconstructed materials including painted paper, melted tyvek, dying and hand stitching. Early in 2009 I undertook a screen-printing course with Sue Haseltine which opened up a new dimension of textile manipulation.
I like to use left-over or ‘hand me down’ fabrics rather than buying new, and I enjoy the challenge of using unwanted or unusable old clothes. This also satisfies my obsession with reusing textiles, rather than seeing them head to landfill.
I enjoy a textile challenge and relish new commissions and requests. My most popular commissions are 'memory quilts'. For these I use my clients own fabric – often outgrown children & baby clothes – to create a bespoke personalised quilt.
